Reflections/snoitcelfeR on James 1:22-24

So the journey with this Art Parable started more than 20 years ago and I am still discovering the meaning of these scriptures. I am posting the initial drawing I sketched in 1996 of Reflections/snoitcelfeR ©1996 Debbie Turner Chavers.
This is a bit of an introduction into how my scripture study, drawing, and painting of Art Parables processes over time, sometimes over years!
*I will post the "finished painting" from this 1996 sketched version at a later date.

As with any endeavor in our walk with God, He has opened my eyes of understanding layer by layer.
Twenty years ago I was living in Hawaii and obviously that translated to my sketch.
When the Lord first showed me this particular image with James 1:22-24 I saw it quite personally.
Yet as with most things in our life, knowledge and application of bible study have changed me as God  has showed me the universal need of all to see Him.
So a lot of my imagery for my art parables are Water-Men to represent everyone, male and female.
At the beginning of my walk with Christ my thoughts were all about me, me, ME! and how His Word created "my life" imagery.
Therefore in the beginning a lot of my sketches..150 or so were personal renditions and then I began to see the bigger picture :-)
It is very clear that we were saved and gifted to share the Good News for all, all, ALL!

Initial sketch of James 1:22-24

In the sketch I drew a forest with many mirrors. I drew the female who had dropped her pack but was walking away, back to whence she had come.
An initial look into God's Word will not keep you free of your burdens. You may lay it down Initially, but life will attempt to give you more burdens to carry. But Jesus said in..
Matthew 11:28  Come unto me, all Ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

The surfer, he looked into the mirror and left. There are places that people left many years ago but the imagery and the impact of that time is still there. In the mirror of their hearts and minds. Jesus came to set the captive free. If freedom is desired, it has been provided.

1 Corinthians 13:11-12  When I was a child, I spake as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I be know even as also I am known.

I wrote a poem about this initial Reflection drawing/painting in 2010 titled "Through a Glass Darkly"

Through a Glass Darkly

I thought I saw you
As I peered through the glass

I thought I saw you
As the sun appeared
And the dawn broke free

I thought I saw you
But it was a mirror
And it was only me

James 1:22  But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your ownselves.
James 1:23  For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass.
James 1:24  For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

Pentecost, One Accord

Pentecost   © 2023 Debbie Turner Chavers Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:17-21 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the m...

The Mind of Christ

The Mind of Christ -Art Parable © 2023 Debbie Turner Chavers I asked God for specific leading in praying for someone who suffers from mental instability and demonic forces/control.  As I began to pray the Lord showed me a lamb/sheep with its head glowing. It was as though a light was emanating from its entire head. The light glowed brilliantly yet was brightest on the crown of the head. As I saw the image I heard the scripture “ the mind of Christ”. I was reminded of the scripture in : 1 Corinthians 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. I encourage you to pray the Word of God and plead the blood of Jesus Christ over those you love or care about.  After praying the Word over them began to thank God for healing their mind and returning them to their first love of Christ if they were previously born again. In all cases ask God to give them to His Son, Jesus Christ.(see John 6:37) I pray that the visual reminds othe...

Doors

Doors  © 2023 Debbie Turner Chavers Water-man Series Will you be a house of holiness? Will you allow the LORD access to every room of your mind and body? Every corner? Every locked door?  The Word of God and the Holy Spirit of God will sweep each room clean and fill them with beauty. You hold the keys. Your will, your choice. Obey. Ask and receive.  God has redeemed you, yet He will not forcibly enter your locked doors. He stands at the door and knocks. Open the door. What we give up is never equal to the treasure and freedom we receive in Christ Jesus. ~Debbie 🌻 John 10:10   The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy : I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Ephesians 3:20  Now unto him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that workers in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.
